Biography

Yoshihiro Suda was born in Yamanashi, Japan in 1969. Suda studied at the Tama Art University, where he obtained his B.A. in 1992. He currently lives and works in Tokyo, Japan.

Yoshihiro was captivated by the wood carving and sculpting lessons since his early years at university. Although the history of wood carving is long, the technique used by Suda is self-taught and perfectly inserted in the present art practice. Without disdaining craftsmanship, Suda is interested in the result of the work, not in the process neither in the technique.

His wooden artworks are considered by himself as part of an installations, therefore his pieces are not finished with the end of the carving process.

Suda has exhibited since 1993 in Tokyo and around the world in solo exhibitions, as well as in group shows. Some of his works are included as part of public collections of different institutions such as The National Museum of Modern Art of Tokyo, Musée National d’Art Moderne Centre Georges Pompidou of Paris, among many others.

Suda will participate in the exhibition "Jardins" curated by Laurent Le Bon, general conservator of cultural heritage and president of the National Museum Picasso in París, which will be held at the Grand Palais in Paris from March 15th to July 24th of 2017.
